Best Implants in the World

History

The idea of replacing missing teeth with artificial ones dates back thousands of years. Ancient civilizations like the Egyptians, Mayans, and Etruscans tried using materials like shells, stones, and even gold to fill gaps in the mouth. However, these early attempts were mostly cosmetic and didn’t integrate well with the jawbone.

The modern era of dental implants began in the 1950s with Swedish orthopedic surgeon Per-Ingvar Brånemark. He discovered that titanium could fuse directly with living bone—a process he called osseointegration. This breakthrough made it possible to securely anchor artificial teeth into the jawbone without rejection.

In the 1960s and 1970s, Brånemark developed the first successful titanium dental implants and began treating patients. By the 1980s, dental implants became widely accepted and started appearing in dental clinics around the world.

Today, dental implants are a common, reliable solution for tooth loss. They’re made from bio-compatible materials like titanium or Zirconia, and they can last a lifetime with proper care. Advances in imaging, 3D printing, and surgical techniques have made the process faster, safer, and more comfortable than ever before.

Review

Regarding the history of implants, we previously mentioned that early ideas were very old, but the main turning point was the discovery of “osseointegration” by Dr. Brånemark in the 1960s. This means titanium can fuse directly with the jawbone. This discovery transformed the implant from a strange idea into a standard and successful treatment.

However, regarding the best implant brand in the world, I must say there is no single definitive answer, because “the best” depends on the condition of the mouth, the budget, and the dentist’s experience. Nevertheless, there are several brands known as the “gold standard” with the most history and success:

  1. Straumann (Switzerland): This brand is usually recognized as one of the pioneers. Straumann implants are famous for their high-quality titanium and special coatings that cause faster fusion with the bone. Many professional dentists prefer this brand for difficult and complex cases.
  2. Nobel Biocare (Sweden/USA): As the name suggests, this company played a key role in developing modern implants. Nobel implants are famous for their engineered designs and high durability and are used worldwide.
  3. Dentsply Sirona (USA): This company also owns famous brands like Xive and Astra Tech. Astra Tech implants, in particular, are well-known for preserving gum and jawbone tissue.

Important Note: Most of these famous brands are European or American. In Iran, Korean brands (like Osstem and Dentium) and Chinese ones are also very common because they offer more affordable prices and acceptable quality.
